Job Description:

Definition: The Finance Council Ministry is mandated by Canon Law. The Council is an Advisory council to the Pastor to assist him in the financial operation of the Parish.

Duties: The Council monitors and advises on the financial plan for the parish; monitors budget allocations; reviews budget requests and status; reviews annual budgets; and works with the Pastor to establish priorities of expenditures; and advises on investment opportunities. As needed, serves in an advisory role to Pastor, by assisting and/or participating in efforts to ensure applicable parish fundraising needs are being addressed within parish. As needed, assist Pastor with project and strategic financial planning (i.e. financial projections, grant submissions, diocesan proposals, agency submissions…).

Length of Commitment: Finance Council stewards stewards typically serve for 3 years and are selected by the Pastor and/or discernment process, based on list of interested candidates.

Time Required: The Finance Council meets every other month for 1-2 hours and, as needed, to review financial data and advise the Pastor.

Qualifications: In order to carry out the Finance Council’s mission, a steward would have a strong background in finance, investments and/or business; effective communicator; forward thinking/visionary; available; accessible; time; and, prayerful. Completed all Called to Protect requirements.
